"...the dairy and meat industry purposefully demand that government policies, like the Dietary Guidelines for Americans that are published every 5 years, to require that these documents when they talk about the harmful effects of food do not talk about dairy and meat. Instead, they say saturated fat and the public doesn't know what saturated fat is. Saturated fat is meat, dairy, and eggs but they won't let them use those words because it would cause Americans to take action."
I was influenced very early in my nutrition career by Dr. John McDougall. After watching the documentary Forks Over Knives and some of his videos on his YouTube channel, I became so interested in his advocacy for a starch-based diet.
Dr. John McDougall is the author of The Starch Solution and a medical doctor who has been speaking out about the effects of nutrition on disease for over 50 years. He graduated from Michigan State University’s College of Human Medicine, performed his internship at Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu, Hawaii, and did his medical residency at the University of Hawaii. Dr. McDougall has been certified as an internist by the Board of Internal Medicine and the National Board of Medical Examiners. He is also the founder of the Dr. McDougall's Health & Medical Center and director of the McDougall Program: a ten-day residential program that he and Mary McDougall host at a luxury resort in Santa Rosa, CA where he helps his patients overcome diseases through dietary and lifestyle changes.
