"When diabetes is out of control, it affects your eyes, your kidneys, your extremities, it subtracts more than ten years off of your life, on average, and we now know how to get this back into balance far better than we ever could have before."

Dr. Neal Barnard is the founder of the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM) that is headquartered in Washington, DC. Dr. Barnard grew up in Fargo, ND where his family raised cattle for a living. He received his medical training at George Washington University School of Medicine in psychiatry and is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, a fellow of the American College of Cardiology and a lifetime member of the American Medical Association.

In this episode, I talk with Dr. Neal Barnard about his new book Your Body in Balance and why he decided to research and write about hormone health. We also talked about what it was like growing up on a cattle farm, how he got into medicine, type 1 vs type 2 diabetes, overcoming unhealthy food cravings, and his band Carbonworks.
